Collection Pt. 2Christy MooreGenre: FolkDescription: PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Christy Moore - Collection Pt. 2 AMAZON It's perhaps a measure of Christy Moore's towering influence over Irish music that while the impression of him may be as a singer of traditional material the majority of the material on this second volume of his best work (as with the first) is predominantly self-penned. Moore's work has quite simply been assimilated into the tradition itself. His songs offer snapshots of Irish life and society both serious and frivolous. Vignettes such as Smoke & Strong Whiskey dips into everyday existence while North & South (cowritten with Bono and The Edge) looks at a much bigger picture and finds the staunchly Nationalist Moore in a reflective (there's some high ground that's not worth taking some old songs not worth singing). As always there is the lighter side to be explored; few could tackle the 13-minute monologue of Rose of Trail in the dry environment of the studio and make it sound so alive. The voice is unmistakable as is the guitar playing and the songwriting craft. --Phil Udell
