The water usage is surprisingly good, with our table top dishwasher using around 3/4 full of water during its cycle once it's all drained. This might be due to some things that wont fit inside, so we'll just put them in the used water bowl which is pretty hot still and wash them after the washer has drained. The machine itself only uses a quarter of a jug at most when it's all filled up. We've found that having larger plates on the left under the fold-up rack helps with cleaning, while smaller dinner plates can be loaded onto the right side with less tilt. There's also a good-sized basket for washing fruit and vegetables on the cold water cycle, which is perfect for plastic toys or cutlery. The drain spout comes up to about half the bowl full once it's all filled, but some things won't fit in so we'll just have to see how much this does. We've found that using the quick setting works well when you use 29 minutes, and the heating part is really quick because it uses so little water. The only thing that keeps us from running it for longer cycles is the absence of a light inside - it's not broken, just doesn't have one. We always load the machine, add soap, turn on, set our timer, and then just let it run. As long as it's plugged in, it will circulate fresh air through itself for 73 hours, so no pongy machine after a weekend away. The sound is quiet - even the emptying pump is a soft sound that can be heard from downstairs. We've tried using a timer plug with it and pressing the power switch first, but we haven't been able to get it to work yet. After every use, we clean the filter by unscrewing it, lifting it out under the tap, checking for bits, taking out the mesh plate, rinsing it, and then wiping it off. If it gets dirty or gritty, you can check the top rotor, which unscrews and is worth checking every few days because of little bits getting stuck there. We've also found that if some plates have onion bits or rice in them, they can get all clogged up under the filter - we scrape our plates before adding to make sure everything gets clean and shiny. Overall, this machine is really quick to use and does an amazing job cleaning up after meals.
